You're probably wondering why there is a floral business with such a unique name. Let's briefly rewind to the beginning. In 2023, I endured a stillbirth that completely changed my life. It was unexpected as up until then, it was a very uneventful pregnancy. Losing Matthew brought a level of grief I truly did not understand prior. The love from our community carried us until we could find our feet again. We received countless stunning arrangements for weeks. I called it "Matthew's ever-evolving garden". When the blooms died, it felt like I was losing a part of him all over again. I began sourcing clearance grocery flowers to make my own arrangements as a form of art therapy. One day, I did my usual arranging, and the thought came to me to write something to pair with it. The colors reminded me of Lunar New Year, so I began researching. Hua was the first character and story I wrote. From a young age I've loved using my imagination to create stories and even stop-motion films. I thought, if I weave parts of my life experiences and grief journey into these stories, others might relate or find healing while I work on my own. Whether it's needing florals, stopping by for a quick escape, searching for a supportive community, or finding comfort, I hope you leave The Whimsical Elephant with a sense warmth and belonging.
